Grand Parenting - Visiting Grandkids Is Much Better Than Living With Them

he best part of being a grandparent perhaps is that you get to visit the kids when they are smiling, and the parents have to deal with them all the time, change their diapers, and take care of all the other nonsense. You get the best of all worlds. It's fun to watch the grandkids run around and play, and reminisce about what it was like to be young, or how you raised your own kids. Having grandkids visit is fun, raising grandkids can be quite a chore, perhaps you are getting too old for that.

If you are, you certainly wouldn't be the first person to say so. Secondly, no parent is perfect, and you probably weren't either, but you did learn eventually from your mistakes. Still, it's hard when your grandkids' parents are making mistakes and you have to sit and watch all of this go on. It might make you depressed knowing that you can't do anything about it, or eventually make you depressed because the kids have all that youthful energy, and it just makes you feel so old.

There was an interesting article in Science Daily posted on August 21, 2013 titled; "Grandmothers Who Raise Their Grandkids Struggle With Depression, Study Suggests," which actually makes a lot of sense, parenting is a huge stress, and older people around younger people all the time makes them feel old, unwanted, too slow, and out of touch.

Apparently, this is a common problem. It's becoming more and more common with hard economic times where grandparents are going to live with their offspring, or their kids are coming home to live with them, and bringing their kids. In past periods families have lived like this, but it isn't common today here the United States, at least not as common as it has been throughout the world, as kids can learn a lot from grandparents, there is much wisdom to depart, even if it does take a toll on the grandparents.

Additionally, stress is something you don't need in your older age, stress can lead to disease, fatigue, and other problems and challenges. Dirty diapers and unclean conditions can also hamper the immune system, so there are many reasons why grandparents probably shouldn't live with their grandkids, but love them nevertheless, and can't wait to see them again. There's a big difference between visiting grandkids and having to live with them, and apparently the empirical evidence is in, therefore you should take note of it.
